Amit Friedman joins Dot Time Records

We are pleased to announce the coming new release by saxophonist and composer Amit Friedman. Amit is among the leading musicians in the Israeli jazz scene. Friedman’s music is rooted in the jazz tradition and incorporates elements of world music and especially Middle Eastern music. His compositions, blend sophistication with simplicity and communicate with a wide range of audiences. Often, following a performance, one hears the comment, “I don’t like jazz but this music really touched me”.

In 2012 Amit released his debut album as a leader titled “Sunrise”. The album received strong airplay and enthusiastic reviews in Amit’s homeland (Israel) and in the US. In addition the album ranked at the top of jazz album lists in leading US magazines and was the top selling jazz album in 2012 in Israel. The Albums title track entered the list of “most played songs” on the popular 88FM radio station.

Building on the success of “Sunrise”, Amit will release his second album as a leader titled “Long Way To Go” and continues in the musical vein of it’s predecessor. For this album Amit’s sextet is joined by three guest vocalists– Claudia Acuna (Chile-USA), Ravid Kahalani (Yemen) and Tamar Eisenman (New York) who featured on Amit’s earlier Album. The Album features thirteen original compositions by Amit.

Friedman performs and records regularly with first rate musicians from Israel and abroad. He has also collaborated with Israel’s leading pop musicians and spent three years playing and musical directing the band in the successful late night TV show, “Tonight with Lior Shlein”. Alongside his work as an instrumentalist, composer and arranger, Friedman is highly active as an educator, working to advance jazz among young people.
